winter break heart ache

she fell into the room
perfumed like a coat
velvet voice with no words spoken
nods yes to diet coke

tiny rope rings looped around an ankle
a fair-weather friend with feathered hair
she sat & we continued staring at her

knew how to sustain a stir
knew exactly where you were
but kept her eyes fixed on a place
somewhere just beyond your milky face

if your wonder lies:
underfloor
underscored
all wrapped inside your mind then
pin me to your eyes
you’ll see my face there, catch my surprise

winter break heart ache
you’re at tetris level 28
she's the first & last & best of her kind
make no mistake

you want to learn the things she’s learnt so well
your turn to cast a malevolent spell
but her letters got left behind, never written, never mind
wish she’d write & right away wish she’d slow wish she'd
stay

if your wonder lies:
underfloor
underscored
all wrapped inside your mind then
pin me to your eyes
you’ll see my face there, catch my surprise

take your lens of déjà vu
off everything i see & do

i was a pharaoh, i was afraid
love is a pheromone anyway.
